Modest Fashion is Quickly Becoming a More Inclusive Way of Dressing for Women
The idea of modest fashion refers to the practice of individuals who choose to cover up when dressing. From personal preference to religious beliefs, modest fashion can be worn by anyone. A common misconception with modest fashion is that it is inherently dull, with those practising it wearing loose silhouettes and dark colours. Modest fashion influencers are beginning to show that modest fashion can be fun and exciting and most importantly, accessible for all.
With almost 14 thousand followers on Instagram, influencer Toiby (@toibycontinued) has been able to reach thousands interested in her style and modest fashion choices. Toiby, who practices modest fashion due to her Jewish faith, shares her vibrant and unique style, proving that modest fashion does not have to be boring. Toiby also creates videos on Tik Tok showing her audience how she modifies outfits to fit within her own style. She serves as an inspiration for anyone interested in expressing their style whilst adhering to their own personal beliefs.

Maria Alia Al-Sadek is another modest fashion influencer who is dominating the industry. Like Toiby, Maria chooses to dress modestly due to her religious beliefs. However, this does not stop her from expressing her individuality through her style. She shows her followers how she can modify and style pieces in order to continue expressing her identity. Most recently, Maria has worked with brands including Dior, Tiffany & Co and DKNY.

Larger retail companies are also beginning to see the importance of catering to the modest consumer. For example, ASOS now has a page dedicated to modest fashion. The garments for sale on this page fit in with modest fashion rules as the site states “long sleeves, floor-length hemlines and opaque fabrics, each piece can be worn on its own – no layers necessary. So, you can stay true to yourself and still have fun with fashion.” (ASOS, 2020). However, it is important to note that despite creating a more inclusive space for all, small and large retail companies must continue to offer inclusive fashion for all. By offering this, companies can begin to target a wider range of consumers. When discussing modest fashion in the 21st century, modest influencers play a huge role in how the masses view modest fashion nowadays. By inspiring those who choose to dress modestly to express their individuality whilst adhering to their own personal beliefs, modest fashion influencers have created a safe space for all.
